Security Screening BS7858 Introduction This course will take you through the following topics using a series of interactive and informative slides, finishing with a short assessment to test your knowledge and understanding. You can download a personalised Certificate of Completion for your records on successful completion of the course and assessment. The BS7858 Standard is the code of practice released by BSI (British Standards Institution) which details best practices and guidelines for the security screening of individuals employed within a security environment. It is also used where security screening is in the best interests of the public. Aims and learning outcomes Gain an understanding of how to apply the requirements of BS 7858:2019 for the screening of individuals working in a secure environment, including: • relevant legislation and regulatory requirements • the difference between personal opinion and fact • the implications of non-compliance Who should participate? The standard requires that you are trained in the requirements of screening and have awareness of the standard in your role as a screening administrator or controller. You yourself should be screened to this standard. Where interviewing, screening and deciding on employment are conducted in separate departments, then coordination of activities should take place. In this course we will go over the complete requirements of the BS7858 framework. BS7858:2019 came into effect 30 September 2019 and replaced the BS7858:2012 which was withdrawn on 31 March 2020. Why should we screen? • Reduce risk exposure • Insurance - it is often a stipulation of your insurer • Contractual requirements - some customers may specify screening requirements, which could be equal to or above what BS 7858 requires • Protection of the public - who are you putting on site? • Protection of assets - staff may be put in positions of trust with access to confidential or sensitive information, security arrangements, or customer and public property
